This week was pivotal for the XR industry. The week saw major technology events like NVIDIA GTC and GDC 2023 introduce a wealth of new XR solutions and products.

Also, among new consumer-based immersive hardware and software launches, the industrial XR space is accelerating across the enterprise space.

Major cooperations are building upon 2022’s technology innovations to provide reliable XR SAAS platforms, giving developers space to leverage immersive solutions across the workplace.

NVIDIA Strikes Big at GTC 2023

This week at NVIDIA GPU Technology Conference (GTC) 2023, the leading technology firm announced a trove of announcements cementing the firm in its immersive solutions journey.

Of its many announcements, XR and beyond, NVIDIA introduced the CloudXR 4.0 platform for scaling immersive content deployments across cloud infrastructures. The updated service adds improved server and client flexibility for developing XR applications.

Moreover, CloudXR enables platform developers to leverage 5G-powered mobile computing edge (MEC) networks for XR steaming. The update also includes Unity integration, APIs for server optimization, and low-latency connections.

Additionally, during GTC, NVIDIA introduced core updates to its Omniverse real-time 3D (RT3D) content creation suite.

The updated Omniverse suite now contains considerations for industrial Metaverse content creation. The real-time 3D (RT3D) development hub now includes tools for leveraging AI-based avatars, 3D design/rendering, digital twins, and automation services.

The updates also integrate third-party tools from solution providers like Microsoft Azure, Siemans, and Unity to elevate workflows. To support its industrial Metaverse content creation suite, NVIDIA also introduced new hardware, services, and systems to optimize Omniverse operations.

Within its Omniverse announcement, NVIDIA also introduced avatar content creation tools. The firm’s new Avatar Cloud Engine (ACE) is a collection of cloud-native microservices to support the development and integration of avatars across various levels of a business.

ACE leverages AI models and algorithms to accelerate and flatten the curve of avatar creation for client-facing business operations such as customer services.

Spatial Debuts Unity Creator Toolkit at GDC 2023

This Monday, the immersive social platform Spatial announced that its Unity Creator Toolkit is entering its beta stages.

The update, which Spaital announced at Game Developers Conference (GDC) 2023 in San Francisco, provides platform developers with a flexible suite for designing, building, and publishing hardware-agnostic immersive content.

Spatial’s Unity Creator Toolkit allows immersive content developers to design games and immersive content for browsers, VR headsets, and mobile devices.

Spatial is working with significant cooperations such as Adidas, Vogue, Ready Player Me, OpenSea, Polygon Studios, and Samsung to generate interest in branded Web3 content.

Web3-based user-generated content (UGC) provides a fresh audience engagement avenue for brands via affordable immersive content.

Next week, Spatial’s Unity Creator Toolkit beta will power the Metaverse Fashion Week from 28 to 31 March – showcasing the platform’s ability to showcase branded fashion, interoperable avatars, and Web3 products.

RTLY, Ready Player Me Partner for Avatar Interoperability

More avatar technology news this week. This Thursday, Web3 platform RTLY partnered with avatar specialists Ready Player Me to deploy interoperable avatars and accessories across the service.

The partnership brings 30 prebuilt full and half-bodied avatars onto the RTLY platform.

Additionally, RTLY users can export their interoperable Web3 content across over 7,000 partner apps and games.

Rokid Debuts Max AR Smart Glasses for Consumer and Enterprise End-Users

This week Rokid launched its Max smart glasses, providing further competition in the immersive hardware marketplace – placing the device up against firms such as Nreal and Xiaomi.

Rokid Max smart glasses weigh in at 75 grammes. The device provides a 215-inch virtual large screen viewable at a six-metre distance. Operators can leverage the device to stream media, such as movies and games, without additional computing hardware.

Hui Du, Head of the Hardware Design Centre at Rokid, added:

These incredible AR glasses allow commuters to make the most of their time – to enjoy a large screen for watching movies, playing games, browsing, or getting work done, without carrying bulky and expensive computers, hosts, and displays

Customers can pre-order the devices at the company’s website with a price tag of $439
