To understand InaDAOs activities and purpose better, I interviewed Tabea. She is not only one of the founders of the InaDAO — but an extraordinaire community builder in the NEAR ecosystem.
She started working within the ecosystem in early 2021, as a community manager for the Arroz Criativo DAO in Lisbon. Since then, she got involved in several different DAOs:
Tabea co-founded the mutiDAO together with Smoked Falmon (a Portuguese musician). Through her involvement in the mutiDAO she entered the creative ecosystem in-depth, becoming a part of the creatives DAO council, co-founding several DAOs to get them started and guide them, and working on DAO to DAO collaborations.
Lots of DAOs in her trajectory but today we are here to talk about the Ina DAO. What is it?
“INA DAO is a DAO founded by womxn for womxn. It is meant to be a place where womxn can learn about web3, exchange, grow and be creative together. The DAO specifically supports people who identify as womxn, their creative goals, and projects, regardless of background, skin color, or location. We share knowledge and resources, currently provide funding through the Creatives DAO/ NEAR, and encourage to collaborate. Our first project ‘My Gaia/ Mom’ launched yesterday [08.03.2022] on the international women’s day in Cryptovoxels and NEARhub. We invited artists to submit art pieces which resemble their relationship to their mothers. It is a very personal approach and we received a lot of beautiful art pieces. The 3 winners of the contest will be announced very soon.”
As for the name — “Ina” means female in Esperanto. As stated in the description of their Store:
“Traditional art history has systematically excluded or masked women’s participation in the arts. While this participation has been increasing since the mid-20th century, there’s still a long way left to attain gender equality in the artistic scene. At the same time, there is a great opportunity for female participation in the crypto world. This may be due, in part, to deficiencies in financial education related to gender stereotypes. At INA DAO, we intend to promote female presence in both worlds, understanding that these can be linked in an empowering way. We choose to support not only females, but feminine-focused projects that help raise visibility about this specific experience.”
The idea to create a DAO to support the arrival of more womxn and non-cis-male people into the web3 space came along the following way:
“After being in the ecosystem for 1 year now I [Tabea] realised that web3 has two sides. One where you can be anonymous, gender does not matter if you do not want to reveal it (which provides more equality than in the physical world). The other, which is a highly technical side, is still mainly dominated by men. The idea, therefore, was to create a space where womxn can freely ask questions and learn, without experiencing the usual mansplaining and being degraded simply due to our gender. And also to function as a place that supports collaborations rather than competition. Having met a lot of incredible strong and knowledgable women in the space, it just made sense to create a DAO so that this knowledge can be passed on and projects with this focus can be supported.”
Today, the InaDAO council is composed by 5 womxn:
Tabea, Chloethedev, Gemini Rising, Juliana Mutsumura & Belén — forming a council that includes trans women, women of all different ages, and women of color. You truly can feel safe here.
Tabea co-founded this DAO with the intention of being an initial driving force, guiding the council members in all things DAO-related until they do not need the guidance anymore.
About the store:
“The store has been deployed about 1 month ago for our first project My Gaia/Mom. All submissions have been minted in there, using blockchain to avoid plagiarism and to guarantee a clear ownership of the pieces as well as using the split royalties to support the artists and DAO once an NFT gets bought. The 3 winners will be announced soon but the project is still ongoing and artists who would like to mint their piece for this project are free to do so.”
All art minted on there at this point in time is for the My Gaia/Mom project.
