5 AMAZING THINGS THAT HAPPENED IN THE METAVERSE, MAY 2022
The metaverse made many headlines in May. From weddings to conferences, here are just 5 of the noteworthy events that occurred in the metaverse:
- Dubai’s VARA Launched Metaverse HQ:
On the 3rd of May, Dubai launched its Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority in The Sandbox, a leading metaverse based on the Ethereum blockchain. By being the first virtual authority to launch in the metaverse, VARA intended to yield direct economic benefit and GDP acceleration for Dubai while fostering growth for the international community. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council, commented on the move. He said, “VARA represents a serious effort to build a new, powerful economic sector that contributes to the nation’s economy and creates new investment opportunities”.
This move endorsed a belief in the metaverse and its potential for income generation.
2. THE QVERSE EXPERIENCE :
Customers of the renowned airline, Qatar Airways, were engaged in a virtual reality experience known as the Qverse. The QVerse experience was developed with advanced tools such as Epic Games’ Unreal Engine and MetaHuman Creator. These hyperrealistic features enabled Sama, a digitally-created high-fidelity 3D human model, to offer users an interactive customer experience while talking them through the various features of Qatar Airways’ business and economy class cabins.
The event was proof that the metaverse would remove all barriers of physical boundary in experiences and travel.
3. ‘SPOTIFY ISLANDS’ ON ROBLOX:
Early on in May, Spotify became the first music-streaming brand to have a presence on Roblox as the company launched Spotify Island, a paradise of sound for all music lovers globally. The goal was to create an interactive world where fans could link up and create new sounds together, hang out in digital spaces, and gain access to exclusive virtual merch. The launch of the island kicked off with a themed experience featuring K-pop superstars, Stray Kids and SUNMI.
4. COINMARKETCAP HOSTS “CAPITAL” CONFERENCE IN METAVERSE:
CoinMarketCap hosted its first ever crypto-conference in the metaverse. The hyper-realistic conference was themed “time to ship” and lasted for two days, ending on the 26th of May. It hosted recognized speakers including CZ, founder, and CEO of Binance; Michael Saylor, CEO of MicroStrategy; Samson Mow, CEO of Jan3 and was live-streamed to an audience of over 5000 people globally.
According to Rush, the CEO of Coinmarketcap, The Capital conference showcased solutions that demonstrated crypto’s impact on global economic, social, and political systems, while inspiring the next generation of crypto users and builders.
5. UAE Hosts its First Metaverse Wedding:
Florian Ughetto and Liz Nunez, co-founders of Easy Weddings graced UAE with its first-ever metaverse wedding. The couple who had officially gotten married in 2019 planned follow-up events for their relatives who were unable to attend. To surpass the hurdles of physical travel, the duo hosted a ceremony on the metaverse which was attended by loved ones from various parts of the world. Ughetto summed up the experience by saying “As we walked down the aisle in The Springs, so too did our avatars in the metaverse”. Nunez added that “Creating unforgettable memories is possible in the virtual world. Our wedding showed us that”.
