PlayStation VR2 builds upon its predecessor and instead of adding additional sensors, the headset’s cameras will track the controllers. This means playing titles such as Resident Evil Village and Horizon Call of the Mountain will be more immersive than ever. It has been confirmed for an early 2023 release, though the exact date has not yet been revealed.
Thanks to the new OLED, 4K PS VR2 displays, the world of Resident Evil Evillage looks more menacing than ever, with the details of carved gargoyles and ornately painted vases accentuated in a creepy manner. Horizon Call of the Mountain puts you in the first person perspective of Ryas, a captive Shadow Carja soldier that soon gets launched into the wilds to fight for himself. You’ll encounter machines in full scale through his eyes, but won’t realize how big a Snapmaw really is until one is biting away at your canoe, while haptic feedback in the PS VR2 Sense controllers make the weight of each moving machine feel ultra realistic. We expect a future version of PSVR to include mouth haptics in VR so players can actually feel things.
