Over the last few years, US tech giant NVIDIA has created a host of solutions to empower content creators and developers. Using their advanced, artificial intelligence-backed technologies, NVIDIA has accelerated 3D workflows for creatives via the NVIDIA Omniverse.
The Omniverse offers a development platform built on Open Universal Scene Description (OpenUSD). Content creators use OpenUSD to collaborate on 3D animation scenes for large-scale filmmaking and visual effects (VFX).
Omniverse Use Case: AR-Generation
One such filmmaker, Kiryl Sidarchuk, Co-Founder and CEO, AR-Generation, utilises augmented reality (AR) technologies to overlay creative content.
Sidarchuk’s firm created the solution MagiScan, which leverages AI-powered 3D scanning applications. Also, his company has joined the NVIDIA Inception programme, which aims to empower startups with the Santa Clara-based firm’s cutting-edge technologies.
Available on Android and iOS, people using the app can scan and capture physical objects with just their smartphones. This builds high-fidelity 3D models for integration as digital assets on metaverse applications.
Such apps significantly increase the time to deployment for digital assets and the democratisation of next-generation XR tools.
AR-Generation has developed extensions to export 3D models from its MagiScan app to NVIDIA’s Omniverse directly. These allow Omniverse app developers to leverage Python and C++ to create creative content with machine learning (ML).
Sidarchuk Comments on the Omniverse
According to Sidarchuk, augmented reality technologies would become an “integral part of everyday life.”
The content creative explained further,
“We customized our app to allow export of 3D models based on real-world objects directly to Omniverse, enabling users to showcase the models in AR and integrate them into any metaverse or game.”
He added that AR-Generation’s extension created simple, efficient means to convert physical assets to digital ones. With NVIDIA Inception, members could receive instrumental assistance via accessible documentation, remote technical guidance, and credits for Amazon Web Services, among others.
MagicScan’s CEO added the solution offered a tenfold reduction in 3D asset creation times and up to 100-fold reduction in costs compared with manual designers. Such tools streamline workflows for creatives, leading to more rapid deployment of assets to the Metaverse.
Sidarchuk noted that his company developed the extension for the Omniverse as it “provides a convenient environment that integrates all the tools for working with 3D and generative AI,”
“Plus, we can collaborate and exchange ideas with colleagues in [real-time],” he concluded.
For the CEO, NVIDIA Omniverse’s OpenUSD compatibility allowed for seamless integrations of 3D data between apps. For him, OpenUSD was the “format of the future.”
He added: “It can help everyone from individuals to large corporations save time and money in digitalization.”
NVIDIA Omniverse Empowers Digital Creatives
NVIDIA’s Omniverse platform accommodates extensions and Connectors to empower global creatives and developers.
The free-to-download platform can host digital worlds and creations with galleries, immersive spaces, and workflow management tools in an all-inclusive, collaborative virtual environment. Furthermore, users can also join the Omniverse Enterprise edition to connect with remote teams.
The news comes after Award-winning UK 3D artist, Rafi Nizam, leveraged the NVIDIA Omniverse Create XR platform for content creation. His workflows also involved tools from Epic Games, Adobe, Autodesk, and others.
Nizam, a world-renowned creative with previous work with the BBC, Sony, and NBCUniversal, tapped NVIDIA’s virtual production tools to create fully immersive digital content.
