Forget video calls, computer scientist Lex Fridman interviewed Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg in the metaverse using lifelike 3D Codec Avatars. Some might be familiar with the cartoon-like avatars that are seen in many games, but these mimicked a real human face, complete with all of their imperfections.
Both Lex Fridman and Mark Zuckerberg wore Quest Pro mixed reality headsets while being in two different parts of the country. The Codec Avatars that you see have been in development for years and focus on things like physical details, even subtle ones that we take for granted every day, such as the small wrinkles in our faces or the way your eyes dart around when reading something.
