Rocket VR Health, Mass General Ink VR Therapy Deal
Boston-based digital therapeutics firm Rocket VR Health announced a new research agreement with the Massachusetts General Hospital. The partnership aims to create virtual reality therapies for patients recovering from bone marrow transplants to treat leukaemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers.
The virtual solution provides immersive VR experiences to increase interactions with bedridden patients during their average 28-day stay in hospitals, boosting their quality of life and reducing isolation.
MTN Group Hosts Africa’s First Metaverse
Africa’s largest telecom firm purchased 144 plots of virtual land on Metaverse platform Ubuntuland in a world-first move for a firm on the continent. The company may potentially use the platform for digital showrooms, outreach programmes, and campaigns, according to sources.
The undisclosed sum of virtual real estate follows similar moves from companies such as Accenture, Nike, Samsung, as well as superstar entertainers Snoop Dogg and Deadmau5, who have either opened massive virtual land plots for sale or heavily promoted the growing Metaverse real-estate industry.
Avataar Picks ex-IKEA AR Lead Daniel Frith
Metaverse firm Avataar selected Daniel Frith as Vice-President of 3D Platform to expand the enterprise’s AR solutions and develop its strategy as it moves to boost its company presence in e-commerce.
The former IKEA 3D AR strategy lead will aim to build Avataar’s virtual platform and facilitate content creation for consumers and shoppers using artificial intelligence (AI) and spatial visual computing.
Meta, Cornell Partner for AR Facial Detection Tools
US tech giant Meta awarded grants to Cornell’s University of Technology and Ann S Bowers College of Computing and Information Science, valued at $1.9 million USD, to develop novel AR facial recognition technologies. Meta’s Spark AR teams are also set to facilitate the collaboration.
The Menlo Park-based firm will disperse the funds over two years to back the institutions’ AR research, class instruction, and boost programmes for students and faculty at the prestigious university.
