XR Collaboration Case Study in Focus: Glue and T-Mobile

Since the COVID-19 Pandemic, global enterprises are bearing witness to the evergrowing benefits of hybrid work environments.

Remote working and video conferencing tools are increasing in popularity thanks to services such as Zoom, BlueJeans, and Microsoft Teams.

Various vertical markets have significantly benefited by harnessing remote working tools and applications. With the emerging Web3 landscape, alternative and sister services appear to enhance workplace collaboration into the next internet age.

Virtual, augmented, and mixed reality (VR/AR/MR) remote collaboration applications present a wealth of features aimed at improving peer-to-peer communications.

One of those applications is Glue, a Finnish remote working tool available on devices like the Meta Quest, Valve Index, and Pico Neo 3.

To enhance 2D communications, Glue gives clients tools, including 3D object handling, third-party video conferencing tools, and immersive environments.

Currently, Glue is offering its service under three subscription models — Free, Professional, and Enterprise — designed to suit individuals and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Using XR for Efficient and Engaging Collaboration

T-Systems Multimedia Solutions (MMS) is the digital transformation subdivision of Deutsche Telekom that assists medium-to-large businesses in leveraging web3 and extended reality (XR) innovations.

MMS houses roughly 2,100 staff members across nine offices, meaning that the firm requires reliable remote communication tools.

MMS has selected Glue as an immersive alternative to more conventional 2D applications to connect its vast workforce. The firm utilises the platform’s features to hold digital workshops, planning sessions, and remote meetings.

Rafaela Sieber, Head of Extended Reality at Deutsche Telekom, said that using Glue makes a “big difference” when clients and coworkers collaborate virtually. The Deutsche Telekom representative also added that all participants have fully immersed themselves “thanks to the VR glasses.”

Immersive Environments, Reimagined Communication

The Glue platform provides a range of immersive environments where dispersed employees can collaborate in a unified digital space.

Additionally, immersive spaces on collaboration platforms like Glue and others create the chance for an enterprise to create a “unified culture,” according to Alex Howland, the CEO of Metaverse collaboration service Virbela.

  • Alex Howland is speaking at the first-ever XR Summit on September 22nd, discussing how Metaverse platforms can improve enterprise-grade remote collaboration and communication.

Furthermore, Sieber added,

“Virtual spaces are used as meeting places, and there are no limits to their design. We can jump between futuristic office spaces, realistic factory halls or atmospheric islands as needed. And all this without travelling in real life”

Realistic Peer-to-Peer Simulation

Glue boasts realistic avatars that a user can edit to create an accurate representation of themselves. The service also features artificial intelligence algorithms that accurately simulate a user’s movement and gestures.

The MMS team uses Glue to give each worker a 3D avatar that they can move around in an immersive meeting environment and “communicate through speech, facial expressions, and gestures.”

Additionally, the team added that its individually designed 3D avatars make it “possible to get to know each other face to face, hold presentations, brainstorm or plan upcoming tasks.”

In its latest update, Glue enhanced the realism of its avatars further by adding eye-tracking on supported devices such as the Pico Neo 2.

The Result

According to Glue, implementing its hardware at the T-Mobile subsidiary enables the MMS team to communicate more efficiently and improve working processes.

Many other global firms also use the Finnish collaboration service, including Axel Springer, Maillefer, Duodecim, and BGG Plantation. Additionally, the Glue team offers a demo session for any client wishing to learn more about the product and its versions.
