Avataar has selected Daniel Frith as its Vice-President of 3D Platform in a bid to expand the firm’s XR capabilities, the company announced on Tuesday.

The company will task Frith with leading strategic development for its 3D division and allow it to deploy its interactive 3D AR turnkey solution for e-commerce firms and retailers.

Frith has worked as IKEA’s 3D AR strategy lead and has extensive knowledge of 3D content and its client-facing capabilities. He will aim to develop further solutions for Avataar’s platform and build the company’s knowledge base of consumer psychology to create immersive experiences for shoppers.

The Swedish furniture giant launched its own AR app in 2017 for testing and locating furniture, powered by Google ARCore’s immersive AR engine.

Avataar, a platform for computer vision and artificial intelligence (AI), has created its own solution by focusing on delivering spatial visual discovery experiences for consumers.

Speaking in a statement, Frith said,

“XR is at a pivotal stage as an industry and Avataar is leading the way. As the world is waking up to the digital transformation and web 3.0, Avataar is developing groundbreaking technologies that will truly shape the future of 3D. I am honored to be part of a company that will define how humans interact with e-commerce in today and tomorrow’s world”

The statement comes after the firm completed a Series B round of fundraising valued at $45 million, led by Tiger Global.

Super excited to announce our $45m Series B led by @TigerGlobal with co-participation from @Sequoia_India. Time to manifest our dream of being the shapers of our industry! Onwards and upwards.https://t.co/pRVOrin6lP#Funding #AugmentedReality #Technology #Metaverse

How does Avataar Work?

The 3D content platform incorporates AI technologies to convert images of consumer goods into interactive 3D content.

According to the firm, its patented technologies have skyrocketed sales conversions roughly 350 percent, product-to-cart customer visits around 60 percent, and boosted average engagement up to four minutes.

As the world develops new Metaverse solutions, the San Francisco, California and Bengaluru, India-based firm added it expects customer behaviour to shift, triggering the further development of immersive experiences for retailers.

Gaurav Baid, Founder and Chief Product Officer at Avataar, added he was excited onboard Frith as his company ‘geared up’ to transform the customer experience.

He explained further, stating,

“One of the key strengths that Dan brings to the table is his keen sense of understanding the digital and physical divide that exists for product discovery today. His expertise will help us cross the next frontier in product innovation”

Top global e-commerce firms and direct-to-consumer (D2C) brands have employed Avataar’s platform to facilitate consumer journeys with its true-to-life 3D product models and interactive functions.

The platform’s plug-and-play features allow websites and apps to integrate its technologies for clients via its Web 3.0 technologies aimed at providing customers with optimal AR experiences.

The news comes amid increasing competition from rival AR e-commerce firms such as NextechAR, who developed its ARitize studio in November last year for designing bespoke real-time 3D (RT3D) content for top groups such as Kohl’s and the City of London.

Nextech AR later rebranded itself as a Metaverse firm in similar moves seen from Meta, who shifted in October last year to accommodate the development of the rising spatial communications platform.
