Japanese game console manufacturer PlayStation will reportedly mass-produce its PlayStation VR 2 (PSVR 2) headsets at a Chinese manufacturer, it was found at the start of the New Year.
Brad Lynch, Extended Reality (XR) Commentator and Analyst, tweeted Chinese firm Goertek would soon produce PlayStation’s virtual reality (VR) headset.

In his tweet, he noted the Chinese company would also mass-produce US tech giant Meta’s upcoming premium headset, currently known as Project Cambria, along with PlayStation’s PSVR 2 device.
Brad tweeted days before the Consumer Electronics Show 2022 (CES 2022) Goertek continues to produce Pico Interactive headsets despite recently selling its Pico operations to Tiktok owner ByteDance.
He also noted the Chinese company also plans to supply components for Apple’s long-awaited augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) headset, tentatively named the Apple View.
The Weifang-based company produces components for XR devices and partnered with US component manufacturer Qualcomm in July last year to join the latter’s wearable ecosystem accelerator programme, landing it numerous key collaborations for the Snapdragon XR1 processor.
PSVR 2, Meta Updates
PlayStation has released very little information about its upcoming head-mounted display (HMD), but revealed in December it had filed patents for an updated version of its VR controller kit, which boosts stability for outward-facing cameras to improve user tracking while operating the devices.
According to previous reports, the controllers would provide enhanced haptic feedback and touch detection, as well as simplified button layouts, among others.
Meta unveiled details of its Project Cambria headset at the Connect Event in October last year, which saw the Menlo Park-based firm unveil a trove of updates, including a company rebrand, HMD projects Cambria and Nazare, as well as a suite of Metaverse communication tools, among others.
Further leaked photos of the anticipated device showed premium features for the device such as a stronger head strap, adjustable plastic moulding, new controller tracking functions, and much more.
