In an historic step for Web3, it was announced this week that Barbados will be the first nation on Earth to establish an embassy in the metaverse. What does this mean for the future of virtual real estate? For one, it is a clarion call declaring that the digital layer that surrounds us can now be considered sovereign land. Thanks to the vision of Ambassador H.E. Gabriel Abed, Barbados’ ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, SuperWorld along with other metaverse platforms will be spearheading this landmark effort and providing teleporters to the other virtual worlds involved as well.

What does this mean for the decentralized digital world?

The activation of the Barbados embassy marks a new frontier for our decentralized world.By entering the metaverse and undertaking projects like identifying and purchasing digital land, developing virtual government facilities and even creating a teleporter that allows avatars to travel through different worlds, Barbados and platforms like SuperWorld are blazing a trail for countless organizations and communities–on chain and off– to move beyond the boundaries of our physical world.

The Barbados project comes in the wake of Seoul, South Korea’s decision to become the first city to enter the metaverse, which is to say that the global migration to the metaverse is heating up, with real world implications. Governments establishing presences within the metaverse are more than just cultural initiatives; they can also lead to digital solutions for real world problems. Within Seoul’s 2023 plan, municipal administration will be ameliorated through a virtual communication environment constructed to tackle anything from civil complaints to legal consultations.

Barbados and Seouls’ decision to make a physical leap into the digital domain is a decision to innovate beyond the confines of the physical world. No longer will world governments be afraid of the sometimes nebulous metaverse. That’s why today, it behooves governments on every level to bridge their digital divides and embrace the astounding  opportunities offered by the metaverse in education, science, public health, the arts and more. Through augmented reality (AR), blockchain and other innovative technologies, the decentralized digital world directly benefits from the active nature of its participants. We at SuperWorld are looking forward to welcoming nations into our community of Super Citizens.

How does SuperWorld fit into this mission?

At SuperWorld, our aim is to build a better world, and we applaud Barbados for taking this monumental step forward with us. By building a metaverse embassy and providing citizens with “e-visas”, Barbados will enrich the real lives of its population, all while inspiring interconnectivity and collaboration. Developing sovereign digital real estate increases a country’s economic prospects, enriches cultural activity, and foments innovation. SuperWorld will assist in this mission by leveraging our technology platform and our community to help bring all of our stakeholders together to enhance and empower our SuperCitizens’ lives. We hope this partnership will revolutionize the work of governments around the world to better serve their citizens.

What Countries Can Learn from Barbados

Although Barbados will not formally enter the metaverse until January 2022, other countries should not hesitate to join them in the digital world as a way to build community. Imagine a world where citizens of a country active in the metaverse can explore a completely new layer of reality, enriching their real lives and communities.
